Scarsdale remodel: One successful job turned into multiple additional projects

I was doing a remodel in Scarsdale and did my usual reach out to all neighbors with my contact info, telling them how to reach me directly if they ever had any issues during the project with parking, noise, etc. The following day I was approached by one of the neighbors who had just purchased a home for their daughter and were about to renovate. The project turned out to be a whole house remodel worth several hundred thousand dollars. We bid it, were awarded the project and completed it successfully. We then went on to do hundreds of thousands of dollars of work for all their other family members. All my work comes like this — referrals and word of mouth. I have never advertised.

Then, these clients’ best friends contacted me. They were downsizing, and I agreed to visit several potential homes with them as they shopped for a house. They eventually purchased a 20-year-old home in a gated community. We completely renovated it before they moved in: kitchen, three bathrooms, wine cellar, upgraded HVAC systems including HRV, refinished floors, built-ins, fireplace, foam insulation in the attic. I actually salvaged the kitchen cabinets and most of the appliances, as they were very high-end and in excellent condition, and I used them in a project several years later.

In fact, recycling materials is one of my favorite things to do. On the first home I built for myself, we had three trees down on the property which we milled, dried and used as hand-scraped (not machine-sanded) wide plank flooring. We also salvaged a hugely expensive Rutt cherry kitchen for the project.
